That's right, you and your friends can enjoy a day on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico catching large Gag Grouper. These big fish can be caught from September 16 to November 15, 2011.
The Gag Grouper fishing has been phenominal this season so far. We have been able to catch some really nice fish closer to shore than we have in recent years. I guess the lack of fishing pressure during 2010 because of the BP oil spill helped them grow up a bit. The season was also closed all 2011 until recently.
The fish are hungry and we are catching them in water as shallow as 120 feet. This is highly unusual. Normally we are out in 140 to 200 feet of water before we even have a chance to catch one. The Gags are eating anything we put on the bottom. We have been using whole Boston Mackerel, Cigar Minnows and live Pin Fish as bait.
