Trahan Fishing Trip With Shark FightTrahan Grunting

Josh called us from Baton Rouge and mentioned that he wanted to go deep sea fishing and catch something big.  I asked Josh what was his idea of big.  He said he wanted to catch a fish over 25 pounds.   We decided to go on a 6 hour, bottom fishing trip.

Red SnapperOn Thursday morning, May 7, we departed at 07:00 for our bottom fishing charter.  The waves were out of the south and were a gentle 3 feet swell.  The gulf winds blew from the southwest all morning long.  The unusual thing about the day was the west current we had.  This ocean current was moving at over a knot and a half.  It made it hard to hold the charter boat over the fishing reef while we fished.  The water was a milky green and we had low visibility.

We fished a couple of reefs and were able to catch some nice Red Snapper.  Josh's fiancee' Amanda and her friend Brittany were catching one fish after another.  They even caugth a few Triggerfish.  These girls fished hard and they smiled the whole time.

Josh did not have to remind Lem that he wanted to catch something big.  Lem put down a big bait and it did not take more than a minute before Josh was hooked up and fighting a monster Bull Shark.  Oh yea!  Josh is a big guy and is a former US Marine.  Now he serves in the Air National Guard in Louisiana.  We appreciate his service  to our country.  However, this service man had his hand full for over an hour.  When the Bull Shark finally came to the surface of the water, everyone was amazed at the size.  This shark would easily tip the fish scales at 200 pounds.

This Bull Shark was amazingly strong.  Josh was whipped.  He had sweat beading all over his head and face.   We laughed the whole time as he grunted and strained.mad bull shark
